In 2018, Logel Homes partnered with Cardel Homes, the Resolve Campaign, and government stakeholders to develop a four-storey, 27-unit building called The James House. Located in the community of Hillhurst and named in honour of Tim Logel’s father, the James House provides temporary housing options and individualized support to unhoused Calgarians.
Overseen by agency provider McMan Calgary & Area, the James House is meant to be a place where residents can focus on their growth and development as they transition into a more permanent housing situation. The James House helps individuals to build a support network while securing financial assistance and finding appropriate accommodation during the start of their new chapter.
In 2024, Logel Homes had the privilege of continuing their efforts with the James House, building “the Hub,” a community kitchen, computer space, and counselling office to support individuals currently unhoused while receiving various community resources to aid in the transition to sustainable and permanent housing. Efforts included project management, physical labour, and supplying the materials and labour to create this space for residents.
For more than 45 years, the Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter (CWES) has been a source of hope and support to some of the most vulnerable individuals and families in our community. Providing much-needed shelter to those seeking a safe haven from domestic violence, as well as special programs, counselling services and workshops, the CWES serves approximately 20,000 Calgarians every year.
Logel Homes is proud to support the tremendous work being done by the CWES. Over the years, both the company and members of the Logel family themselves have donated funds and volunteer time to this vital cause.
As part of the BILD Alberta Scholarships for Construction Careers and partnering with SAIT and NAIT, The James Logel Scholarship inspires and enables young people to enter the trades industry. Along with other industry members, Logel Homes, SAIT, and NAIT, are committed to working with the construction community to make this a fundamental and ongoing initiative benefiting students and the industry.
The initiative's goal is to fund scholarships and bursaries for SAIT and NAIT construction trades students, and to both grow engagement at the High School level, creating awareness around construction and trade careers.
The James Logel Scholarship will grow the BILD Alberta Project pool of funds, providing prospective students with awards and financial assistance for residential construction apprenticeships at both institutions. We are proud to be a part of an initiative that elevates construction-related youth programs engaging junior high and high school students.
Logel Homes is proud to be participating in Ronald McDonald House's “Home for Dinner” events. At each event throughout the year, a team of 10 staff members will be preparing meals at the Calgary Houses' 70 residents. This community service initiative ensures that the families will not have to worry about cooking their meals as the event includes planning, cooking, cleaning up and packaging up any leftovers - Using the Logel Homes Team's culinary skills for a great cause and assisting our fellow Albertans during a challenging time.
